Vladyslav Sukharyev, his wife, and three children fled their hometown in southern Ukraine. Ultimately settling in Hamilton after hearing of its strong Ukrainian community and work prospects. Upon arriving, Sukharyev faced several challenges, such as learning a new language, finding schools for his children, and understanding how to obtain an OHIP and SIN card.
Wesley has helped Sukharyev and over 800 other Ukrainians who fled the Russian invasion to life in Hamilton. We provide individualized settlement plans tailored to the needs of each family, including guidance and information on finding healthcare and social services, accessing tax benefits programs and employment.
Sukharyev’s primary goal is to lay the foundation for a stable future for his family in Canada. While grateful for the help, he’s determined to make it on his own. His wife is taking English courses, and his kids started school a few weeks ago. Although it’s been difficult for Sukharyev to accept that his old life has come to an end, he’s excited about the new possibilities that await his family here in Canada.
