Last month, Wesley Supportive Housing received a generous $3,500 grant from Ward 2 in Hamilton, allowing us to make meaningful upgrades that directly impact our residents’ daily lives.
One major improvement was the purchase of a new stove—something that had been on our wish list for a long time. Despite many maintenance visits and the replacement of several parts, the old stove had only two functioning burners, and the oven could no longer hold a consistent temperature, creating both frustration and safety concerns. With the new appliance, staff can safely prepare daily breakfasts, keep catered meals from our First Start kitchen at the proper temperature, and host special meals. More importantly, clients now have greater opportunities to exercise more choice over what they eat, to gain life skills by cooking with staff, and for some, to connect with their culture.
The grant also helped replace aging lamps and dressers in four units that are leased unfurnished and do not have overhead lighting. Previously, many of these pieces had been in use since the program’s inception seven years ago and were in poor condition. With the new furniture, residents now enjoy well-lit spaces and durable, high-quality dressers that provide both function and comfort—items we’d be proud to have in our own homes.
These upgrades go beyond basic necessities—they help foster dignity, choice, and a greater sense of home for everyone in the program.
Thank you, Ward 2, for your generous support of Wesley Supportive Housing!
