by Arnel Rabago, Employment Case Manager at Wesley Employment Services
“I would like to express my profound appreciation for the opportunity to serve as the Employment Case Manager at Wesley Employment Services. In this capacity, I have had the privilege of working closely with individuals from various backgrounds, including youth, seniors, persons with disabilities, newcomers, and individuals seeking to reintegrate into the workforce following extended absences due to diverse life circumstances.
Upon relocating to Canada at 16, I encountered the challenges associated with adapting to a new environment, particularly when English is not one’s native language, and when one must familiarize oneself with local resources and support systems. Observing my parents’ persistent efforts to secure employment after our relocation, during which they made significant sacrifices by leaving behind their careers in the Philippines – my mother as a public school teacher and my father as an overseas Filipino Contract worker for an international cruise ship – provided me with a deep understanding of the immigrant experience. Their decision to immigrate to Canada was driven by the aspiration to provide their children access to high-quality education and expanded opportunities.
Motivated by my family’s struggles, I committed myself to pursuing a career in social services, with the intention of aiding newcomers in Canada owing to my firsthand understanding of their challenges when establishing themselves in a new country. Embracing the spirit of perseverance and resilience necessary for building a life in Canada, my professional journey as an Employment Case Manager stands as a testament to my accomplishments. Each day, I have the privilege of collaborating with individuals boasting diverse life experiences, including former doctors, lawyers, scientists, and refugees seeking asylum due to political circumstances. These encounters perpetually inspire and compel me to fulfill my role as a proactive and effective social service professional.
While I acknowledge that I cannot address all my clients’ challenges, I am unwavering in my commitment to providing them with exceptional customer service and support. Every client interaction, whether involving the creation of resumes, provision of job search coaching, or delivery of empowerment and motivation, represents an opportunity for me to contribute to their journey. Each day presents a new success story as I strive to empower my clients, regardless of their backgrounds, to realize their potential and achieve their professional aspirations.”
