Lina El Ali Wins the 2025 YWCA Hamilton Women of Distinction Award!

We are beyond thrilled to share that our esteemed colleague, Lina El Ali, has won the 2025 YWCA Hamilton Women of Distinction Award in the Public Service category!

This prestigious award, presented by ArcelorMittal Dofasco, is the largest event honoring women and girls in Hamilton and Halton, recognizing those who have made significant contributions to their communities. Lina’s unwavering dedication to newcomer resettlement and her leadership in social services have made a profound impact, and we are so proud to see her incredible work recognized on such a distinguished platform.

Lina’s journey from living in a Palestinian camp in Lebanon to becoming a leader in newcomer resettlement in Hamilton is truly inspiring. Over the past 32 years, she has used her extensive knowledge, experience, and leadership skills to help thousands of newcomers settle into their new lives. A trailblazer in establishing settlement programs, Lina played a key role in launching Wesley’s Ukrainian Support and Asylum Seekers Assistance Program (ASAP). Now leading ASAP—one of the few programs in Canada dedicated to supporting asylum seekers—Lina has been instrumental in providing transitional housing and essential support services to those in need.

For Lina, working with newcomers is deeply personal. She understands the challenges of starting a new life in a foreign country and is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. Through her efforts, Lina and her team ensure that newcomers feel supported, connected to resources, and empowered as they navigate their new beginnings. She finds immense joy in helping people reach their goals and destinations, reflecting her selfless nature and dedication to community service.

Inspired by her grandmother, who championed the importance of education, Lina extends her passion beyond direct service. She is a mentor, a problem solver, and a champion of professional development. She is known for her integrity, honesty, and unwavering commitment to finding solutions—if she can’t help someone directly, she ensures they are connected with the right support. At Wesley, she has become a pillar of knowledge and encouragement, inspiring her colleagues to pursue continuous learning and career growth. By fostering a culture of development, Lina ensures that Wesley continues to provide high-quality services while supporting her peers’ professional and emotional well-being.

Congratulations, Lina, on this well-deserved recognition! Your dedication and impact are truly extraordinary, and we are honored to have you as part of the Wesley team.
