Celebrating Shirley Bainbridge: Recipient of the 2025 Order of Hamilton

We are thrilled to share wonderful news about long-time Wesley Board member and community volunteer, Shirley Bainbridge, who has been selected as a recipient of the Order of Hamilton.

The Order of Hamilton recognizes individuals whose service has made our city stronger, kinder, and more connected. Shirley embodies this spirit in every sense with her extraordinary dedication, integrity, and lifelong commitment to serving our community.

For more than 40 years, Shirley has dedicated her time, heart, and leadership to helping Wesley strengthen our community with hands-on frontline work, major community initiatives, and organizational leadership. Her journey with Wesley began with preparing and serving meals, and has grown into decades of hands-on service, advocacy, and governance. Shirley has been involved with our Case for Kids event since its inception 35 years ago, supported the Christmas Store and the Wesley Open Golf Tournament, and is currently serving her third term on Wesley’s Board of Directors as Chair of the Personnel Committee. She provides steady, thoughtful governance, staff support, and leadership that benefits both staff and the organization as a whole.

What sets Shirley apart is not only the length of her service but the depth of her compassion and leadership. She leads with humility, kindness, and commitment. Her presence brings people together, her voice advocates for fairness and care, and her actions consistently reflect her deep belief in supporting children, families, and those experiencing vulnerability.

Beyond Wesley, Shirley’s impact reaches across Hamilton. As a longtime educator at Mohawk College, she mentored and inspired future Early Childhood Educators, engaging students in volunteer service and championing accessible, high-quality child care. Her volunteerism with faith communities, Scouts Canada, and local advocacy groups has reached generations of children, families, and seniors, creating a ripple effect of care that continues today.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations and deepest thanks to Shirley for a lifetime of service. Your leadership, compassion, and tireless dedication have made Hamilton a stronger, kinder, and more connected community. Thank you for showing us all what it means to show up and care for community, year after year.
