Urgent and Special Event Opportunities

 

URGENT: Burmese speaker to work with Newcomers

Burmese speaking volunteers are needed to help in Wesley’s Resettlement Assistance Program.

  • Assist newcomer clients with integration, daily activities and other duties as required
  • Location: 52 Catharine Street North, Hamilton
  • Time: 1-3 hours per week, day and shift times flexible

URGENT: Thursday or Friday mornings program support working with children

  • Assisting with programming to provide a fun and interactive learning environment for children and their caregivers
  • Location: St. Cuthbert’s, 2 Bond Street North, Hamilton
  • Thursday and/or Friday mornings

URGENT: Wednesdays from 3pm – 7pm

  • Assisting with programming to provide a fun and interactive learning environment for children and their caregivers
  • Location: Beasley Community Centre, 145 Wilson St, Hamilton
  • Wednesdays from 3pm – 7pm

Children, Youth & Family Services

Child and Family Centre Volunteer

  • Volunteers will assist with program implementation: set-up and clean-up, snack preparation, washing toys, general tidying, emptying and filling dishwasher, crafts, making sensory play materials
  • Experience working with children is an asset
  • 18 years or older
  • 2-3 hour shifts available Monday – Saturday during the day
  • Location: Beasley Community Centre, 145 Wilson St, Hamilton

Program Support Volunteer

  • Volunteers will assist with program implementation: set-up and clean-up, snack preparation, washing toys, general tidying, emptying and filling dishwasher, crafts, making sensory play materials
  • Experience working with preschool aged children and their families an asset
  • 18 years or older
  • 2-3 hour shifts available Thursday and Friday mornings
  • Location: Wesley EarlyON Child and Family Centre, 1900 Main Street West, Hamilton

School Age Program Volunteer

  • Volunteers will assist with programming: homework help, serving nutritional healthy snacks, provide 1:1 time with children, create & help staff with recreational programming
  • Previous experience working with youth is an asset
  • 18 years or older
  • 2-3 hour shifts available in the afternoons Monday – Friday
  • Location: Hess Street School, 107 Hess Street North, Hamilton and St. Luke Catholic Elementary School, 345 Albright Road, Hamilton

Wesley’s Child and Family Program Volunteer

  • Volunteers will assist with programming:  set-up and clean-up, crafts, sensory play materials, general tidying
  • Experience working with children an asset
  • 2-3 hour shifts available during the day Monday – Friday
  • Location: Unit 131, 350 Quigley Road, Hamilton

Newcomer & Community Services

Resettlement Assistance Program Volunteer
  • Volunteers needed to assist newcomers with the day today tasks  such as
  • Helping with moving in or out
  • Facilitate activities for youth and children including arts and crafts or games etc…
  • Help with clean up of toys and other tasks as required to help RAP staff.
  • 2 – 3 hours a week; days, evenings and weekends available
  • Location: Wesley,  52 Catherine Street, Hamilton
  • Age: 18 years or older
Client Support Service Volunteer
  • Volunteers will assist with essential interpretation and support CSS staff with other tasks at important meetings,  medical appointments, orientations, trainings, community programs as required in newcomers integration and settlement.
  • Languages currently needed include : Arabic, Farsi, Swahili, Somali, Spanish, Tigrinya, Amharic, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Burmese and Mandarin.
  • 2 – 3 hours a week, days and evenings available
  • Location: Various service centers in Hamilton
  • Age: 18 or older

 

 

Shopping by Bus – Burlington

  • Volunteers will support with mobility on and off the bus and in the grocery store as needed, and will provide friendly and attentive communication with clients (mostly older adults)
  • 18 years or older
  • 2-3 hour shifts available (depending on location)
  • Locations available:  
    • Hamilton: Fortinos, 50 Dundurn St. and No Frills, 438 Main St.
    • Burlington: Fortinos, 1059 Plains Road East and No Frills, 571 Brant St.

Housing & Homelessness Services

Kitchen Volunteer

  • Helping to prepare meals at the Wesley Day Centre by chopping, cooking, washing dishes, serving, and other duties as assigned
  • 18 years or older OR 14-16 year old must be accompanied by a parent/guardian, and 17 year old must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or provide a written note that they are allowed to volunteer
  • 4 hours Monday – Saturday and 3 hours on Sunday
    • Most needed currently is Monday – Thursday
  • Location: Wesley Day Centre, 195 Ferguson Avenue North, Hamilton
