Special Events

URGENT: Summer Ambassador Volunteer – Occasional or Lead

  • Volunteers will help Wesley promote The Great Hamilton Scavenger Hunt App through explaining and distributing post cards/marketing materials about the app at several events throughout the summer
  • 16 years or older, 14-15 with an adult
  • 2-4 hour shifts available at various special events throughout Hamilton, depending on volunteer’s availability
  • Location: Throughout Hamilton

Children, Youth & Family Services

Child and Family Centre Volunteer

  • Volunteers will assist with program implementation: set-up and clean-up, snack preparation, washing toys, general tidying, emptying and filling dishwasher, crafts, making sensory play materials
  • Experience working with children is an asset
  • 18 years or older
  • 2-3 hour shifts available Monday – Saturday during the day
  • Location: Beasley Community Centre, 145 Wilson St, Hamilton

Program Support Volunteer

  • Volunteers will assist with program implementation: set-up and clean-up, snack preparation, washing toys, general tidying, emptying and filling dishwasher, crafts, making sensory play materials
  • Experience working with preschool aged children and their families an asset
  • 18 years or older
  • 2-3 hour shifts available Thursday and Friday mornings
  • Location: Wesley EarlyON Child and Family Centre, 1900 Main Street West, Hamilton

School Age Program Volunteer

  • Volunteers will assist with programming: homework help, serving nutritional healthy snacks, provide 1:1 time with children, create & help staff with recreational programming
  • Previous experience working with youth is an asset
  • 18 years or older
  • 2-3 hour shifts available in the afternoons Monday – Friday
  • Location: Hess Street School, 107 Hess Street North, Hamilton and St. Luke Catholic Elementary School, 345 Albright Road, Hamilton

Tuesday Night Dinner Volunteer

  • Volunteers will assist with programming: Set-up and maintain cleanliness of program space, wash tables, set-up chairs, help to prepare meals, interact with children and caregivers
  • Some cooking experience and preparation an asset
  • 18 years or older
  • 4:30pm – 7:30pm on Tuesdays
  • Location: Wesley EarlyON Child and Family Centre, 155 Queen Street North, Hamilton

Wesley’s Child and Family Program Volunteer

  • Volunteers will assist with programming:  set-up and clean-up, crafts, sensory play materials, general tidying
  • Experience working with children an asset
  • 2-3 hour shifts available during the day Monday – Friday
  • Location: Unit 131, 350 Quigley Road, Hamilton

Newcomer & Community Services

Hospitality Volunteer at First Start Café

  • Volunteers will gain experience in hospitality industry by serving coffee, tea, and water to customers, meeting/greeting customers as they arrive, and will develop communication and interpersonal skills through interaction with customers and staff
  • 18 years or older
  • Shifts available 7 days a week for either lunch shift (11am – 1:30pm) or dinner shift (4pm – 6pm)
  • Location: Inside First Place Hamilton Seniors Residence, 3rd floor, 360 King Street East, Hamilton

Shopping by Bus – Hamilton or Burlington

  • Volunteers will support with mobility on and off the bus and in the grocery store as needed, and will provide friendly and attentive communication with clients (mostly older adults)
  • 18 years or older
  • 2-3 hour shifts available (depending on location)
  • Locations available:  
    • Hamilton: Fortinos, 50 Dundurn St. and No Frills, 438 Main St.
    • Burlington: Fortinos, 1059 Plains Road East and No Frills, 571 Brant St.

Special Events – Multicultural Seniors Outreach Program

  • Volunteers will assist staff with running special events through friendly and attentive communication with clients, helping with administrative tasks (ex. taking attendance) and interacting/encouraging conversations with clients
  • 18 years or older
  • Events are held Monday – Friday, time dependent on event
  • Location: Volunteers will meet clients and staff at Wesley offices, 52 Catharine St N, Hamilton

URGENT: Vietnamese and Cantonese speakers needed for Recreational Programming Volunteer – Transitional Beds Program

  • Volunteers will assist supervisor with recreational therapy programs, including: card games, leading a social group, board games, etc. and/or provide friendly visits with clients
  • Some knowledge regarding working with seniors who have Dementia
  • 2-3 hour shifts available Monday – Sunday all day
  • Location: 3rd Floor of 52 Catharine Street North, Hamilton

Housing & Homelessness Services

Kitchen Volunteer

  • Helping to prepare meals at the Wesley Day Centre by chopping, cooking, washing dishes, serving, and other duties as assigned
  • 18 years or older OR 14-16 year old must be accompanied by a parent/guardian, and 17 year old must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or provide a written note that they are allowed to volunteer
  • 4 hours Monday – Saturday and 3 hours on Sunday
  • Location: Wesley Day Centre, 195 Ferguson Avenue North, Hamilton

Administrative

Administrative Assistant Volunteer

  • Volunteers will help with administrative tasks such as: data collection, filing, sorting, organizing data using excel, and other duties as assigned
  • 2-3 hour shifts available Monday – Friday during the day
  • Location: Wesley, 52 Catharine Street North, Hamilton
