Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP)

rap-reception-hallway

The Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) provides Government Assisted Refugees with welcome upon arriving in Hamilton, support, orientation as well as temporary accommodation during their initial days in Canada. Our Reception House was opened in October 2013, at 52 Catharine St N.

During their stay with us, intensive orientations prepare clients for life in Canada. Services Include temporary accommodation, orientation about life in the community, financial orientations, introduction to rights and responsibilities, opening bank accounts, assistance with securing permanent accommodation, applying for utilities, obtaining official documents, (i.e. Social Insurance Number), linking Government Assisted Refugees to federal and provincial programs ( i.e. health insurance, and Child Tax Benefit, etc.), conducting Needs Assessments and providing referrals to other settlement programs and services. This time provides an ideal opportunity to provide early interventions and ensure that clients have the best start in Canada.

Access to Services: RAP services are delivered to Government Assisted Refugees within 4-6 weeks upon arrival in Hamilton.
